What is the African American College Alliance? Is it still an existing organization?
I was watching Bobby Brown's "Humpin Around" video when I noticed that his sweatshirt had African American College Alliance (AACA) on it. I knew that college apparel was a fashion in the '90s, but I was too young to remember most of that time. I was wondering about the African American College Allicance, because Black youth need something like that today if it was in existence.

NOTE: From now on, please no answers that are degrading to the Black community!
Dear Mr. George M,
I feel the need to answer my own question in order to comment on your comment.
I whole-heartedly understand your frustration and confusion, but I believe that your frustration is only being used in the wrong way. You see I am myself extremely frustrated, which is why I believe that I should and plan on doing something about it. Mr. George M, take a walk in my shoes for a day, and while you are worrying about that boy sagging his pants, he is worrying about staying alive another night. And while you are worrying about my race not giving its race enough respect, I am worrying about not getting enough respect from other races. It is hard being Black, and I don't expect you to see it, because you are not Black. And being Black and female? You can hang it up. I will admit, I have been blessed thus far in my life, but I see the ongoing struggle everyday in the lives of my parents. How would you feel if your affluent father, wearing a dress shirt and slacks that aren't sagging, walks by a woman in a car and she abruptly locks the doors? Did my father look like a thug by any means? Or how about going into an expensive and formal restaurant for your mother's birthday and a woman cuts her eyes at you as if you have NO right to right to be there? I guess we weren't good enough unless we were serving her food, uh? Better yet, how would you like to be twelve years old and be called a "N-word" to your face!?
It is true that we have been given our freedom, but why does my educated (with a Masters) father get paid less than all of his co-workers? Why do my friends, who only want to go to school and make a better life for themselves, not have a textbook at the middle of the school year while more affluent schools are pushing to put their textbooks on a palm pilot!?
While this may only seem like a bunch of excuses, sir they are a bunch of examples in my life alone, and that is far from even the half. There is need for change, so I plan to make something happen, because it is a struggle to get an education. And I may never fully understand the extent, because I am soon to be a graduating senior with a 3.8 GPA at the 23rd school in the nation, MLK Academic High in Nashville, TN (accrording to Newsweek). But I am priviledged because I have both parents in the home. I am priviledged because I live in a decent neighborhood, where I don't have to worry about bullets shattering my windows. I am priviledged because I have someone who cares for me enough to make me strive for the best. So you ask who cares if there is an African American College Alliance, well I care, because someone encouraged me. Would it not be fair to have someone to encourage that 52% of Black males that don't graduate?
And let me reassure you Mr. George M, that as long as I help one Black child to go to college and be something, I will NEVER have a downfall. Before you judge my people by looking from the outside in, take a chance to look from the inside out (Tip: Never end a sentence with a prepostition, unless for emotional significance. Just to show what I learned as an A student in AP English Language and Composition).
And please, from now on if you have nothing good to say about the Black community, do not comment. You are just making yourself look bad.
Sincerely,
Aria Aaron
